Usk Rural Life Museum

Based in the historic town of Usk, the Museum aims to conserve and display aspects of the history, heritage and traditions of rural life in the county of Monmouthshire.

A recent report on provincial museums described the Usk Rural Life Museum as ‘one of the best of its kind in Britain’. It presents a huge range of interesting items in an informal setting backed by well researched information.

The Museum portrays life in Monmouthshire as it was at any time between 1850 and the end of World War II. The collection is housed in a traditional malt barn and adjoining buildings. The exhibits have been collected over the years by a group of local enthusiasts determined that examples of the equipment on which country people depended from day to day should be preserved for posterity.

The Museum is run entirely by volunteers of The Rural Crafts Preservation Society.
